so far this weekend, i have been able to hang out with some friends i havent seen in a while. i played drums for some freshman orientation thing at my school. it was fun. i got to share the stage (or the cement outside) with my great friends dan, jeremy, and nathan. and jc was with us because he runs sound.we hung out at smoothie king after we played the first night and there is a cigar shop/lounge right next door. i dont smoke, but we went and browsed around inside the cigar shop because we didnt have anything else to do. after 5 minutes of breathing cancer, we left and sat in the chairs in front of the cigar shop and continued to drink our smoothies. (sitting outside you could smell the cigar smoke just enough so that its actually pleasant.) we sat for a while and the owner comes out and rudely asks us if we are smoking cigars. we said… “no.” he said, “well the smoothie store is next door.” (trying to get us out of their chairs.) of course we knew where the smoothie store was. we were holding smoothies! what an idiot.

then some hardcore gangster was walking around talking about how he hated the valet parking from the restaurant next door. he told us a story about how they ratted him out for wearing all black and carrying a gun and he went to jail. but he beat the case some how he said. kinda scary. (this is a guy who has “thug 4 life” tattooed on his arm. of course they told on him!) so that was funny.

heres what ive learned this weekend: playing music is awesome whether or not you have a million dollar sound system, lights, and all the other unnecessary fancy stuff; or if you have an old mixer hooked up to one lousy speaker, and dont even know what songs your playing till 20 min before you start. its the same either way to me.
